Debra Anderson is Chief Strategy Officer & Founder at Datavized. A Producer/Director, she builds data-driven and researched based approaches to immersive experiences. Her directorial debut, In/Formation, a pioneering two-part (25 min) immersive documentary explored through 3D 360° stereoscopic VR, investigates the potential for virtual reality to inspire empathy in its audience. She recently exhibited In\Formation at the MIT Open Documentary Lab’s inaugural conference “Virtually There: Documentary Meets Virtual Reality” and was a guest speaker, presenting on “Real Data in Virtual Worlds.” She has been a consulting producer on fully immersive VR projects The Enemy, Soundself and Less Than Human. Debra founded the innovation consultancy Culture Shock in 2007; presented groundbreaking interactive works with The National Film Board of Canada at Sundance New Frontier and Tribeca Storyscapes and curated arts/tech projects at Volta Art Fair NY & Switzerland. She designed and instructs the first Big Data: Consumer Research undergraduate course at The New School for Public Engagement and is building curriculum in Immersive Storytelling for Parsons’ School of Art, Media and Technology (AMT)
Hugh McGrory brings expertise in film production, art, and technology to the world of immersive media. He was a partner at Culture Shock, consulting for clients including The National Film Board of Canada. In 2011 Hugh brought the partners together to create The Andy Warhol Film Digitization Project, featuring over 500 films by Warhol, developed in collaboration with The Moving Picture Company and Technicolor and described in the New York Times as “the largest effort to digitize the work of a single artist in MoMA’s collection.”
Hugh grew up in Derry, Northern Ireland. He co-founded the Belfast-based studio Make.ie in 2000 with an Ars Electronica-winning generative animation coder, was executive producer for the Northern Ireland Screen / UK Film Council ‘Deviate’ short film scheme, a teaching fellow at The Queen’s University of Belfast Film Studies Department, film acting tutor at The Gaiety School / National Theater School of Ireland, and was an award-winning director and producer of experimental films. He completed a Nano Imaging Residency with the CINEMA Microscopy Lab at Yale University School of Medicine in 2007.
